Farmhouse Kitchen Project

Project Description

The complex vaulted ceiling of this combined kitchen and dining space offered the perfect opportunity for large pendants in each space.

The dining iron pendant spans a large portion of the table that can sit 12 very comfortably. In the foreground, the large seating portion of the island also offers room for 5 without compromising the work space by the accessory sink.

The built-in coffee center by the refrigerator means your favorite latte is at hand at any time of the day. Note the intentional mix of metals with the stainless of the appliance and fixtures mellowed by the copper counterparts of the sinks and bar stools.

The multiple planes of the ceiling and skylights are further highlighted with the wood paneling stained to emulate the cabinetry. This portion of the island featured a bar sink and the recycling center, opposite the main sink. The slate tile floor provides a forgiving work surface for a busy family.

This side of the island offers further storage, with bilateral roll-out narrow bins and a wide linen drawer. Below, dual dishwasher flank the large copper apron sink with its industrial faucet. The bank of upper cabinets features some glass fronts and in-cabinet lighting.

The slate floor is complemented by the slate mosaic detailing of the backsplash, itself of a tumbled stone mosaic. Skylights bring natural light to balance the darker tones of the wood cabinets, which are repeated in the transition space between the kitchen and dining spaces for additional storage and serving space for entertaining.
