Exterior remodel design: before/after via Project Guru Designs.

In this Walnut Creek exterior remodel by Project Guru Designs the clients were able to see the” before and after” of their planned project before any work was done. Coming home is a feeling we all yearn for, and a beautiful exterior can be the best welcome home. Before starting their landscape remodel, these clients asked for design help to improve their home’s curb appeal. Computerized images were used to present a clear picture of the proposed vision for the project. Many door options were “tried on” and rejected until the perfect one was chosen. The final images or renderings and even guided selections for the yard remodel .

The 3-bay garage is the first approach to the home: before the remodel, this large block had little personality. The porch, with a traditional entry door and concrete steps clashed with the client’s modern style.

The client’s wishes included: a modern look and vibe, an expanded seating porch and deck, new outdoor lighting, and a custom entry door. They also wanted to explore custom garage doors to match, and wanted a color scheme and materials for the entire exterior project. We used Houzz idea books to exchange information, compared building materials with sample on site and selected colors. With computerized renderings, we arrived at final selections for approval of all key items including color, stone veneer, lighting and the custom entry door.

The final result after the remodel repeats the vision presented to and selected by the clients.

The color palette on the front of the home is repeated in the hardscape materials of the yard remodel. The the all-weather wicker outdoor furniture (with Sunbrella cushions) provides the performance necessary for today’s outdoor rooms. The new outdoor kitchen, complete with arbor and bar seating, anchors the outdoor space. Pops of color from the table and bar seating, are echoed in the bench cushions. Lounge chairs and a love seat surround the fire pit with lounging comfort. The outdoor dining space sits 12 at the table, with more informal seating in the built-in bench and bar.

On the front of the house, the stone cladding creates bold contrast to the custom mahogany double door. At night, it’s texture and comes to life with the new sconce LED lighting. The expanded porch and deck, made of durable Ipe hardwood, were stained to match the entry door. They provide the perfect place to welcome guests to linger for a chat. The steel cable railing completes the modern vibe, echoing the tone set by the door. While the clients loved the concept of a garage door for the central bay inspired by the entry door, they have phased out this item for a later time frame.
